In the Palazzo Vecchio, in Piazza della Signoria, there is the City council.
On the main facade, behind which is hidden the enormous structure, the Tower of Arnolfo, emblem of the city, dominates.

In the lunettes, around the porch, are reproduced the insignia of churches and corporations of arts and craft of the city. However in the boxes below are painted the "View of the city of the empire of the Hapsburgs", in honor of Joan of Austria.
At the center a fountain was erected to replace the well and in 1557 was elaborated whit the  most ancient bronze statue of "Putto with Dolphin" by Verrocchio ( in 1959 it was moved into the Palace and replaces whit a copi).
The water that gushes from the nostrils of the dolphin is powered by an ancient water system.

Nella Loggia dei Lanzi

Il Ponte Vecchio

« Tra i piloni addormentati scorre l'Arno dolcemente.
Nel veder gli innamorati, acconsente... acconsente.

Benvenuto Cellini, la sua stizza appena cela,
io vi tengo birichini la candela... la candela. »

In 1442 authorities of the city, in order to maintain the cleanliness and decorum, forced the butchers to move in the workshop on the Ponte Vecchio, so the wouldn't have left smelly traces when they transported discard from the city to the Arno.
Since that time the bridge became the meat market and the butchers became workshop owner. To get more space the added small rooms that faced the river, simply blocking them with wooden stakes.
Now there are only stores of gold, much more refined of the meat but still overlooking the river.

I must admit that I expected more from Florence, it is also true that I live in Rome and it's difficult to surprise of some other town. But I expected more. Perhaps I was also influenced by the bad weather ... this means that I will come back xD
